John Ruffner
Cutler
John Ruffner has spent 43 years with W.R. Case and Sons Cutlery Company, which makes him our senior associate. For many years he’s worked as a Cutler – one of the most skilled positions in the Case factory.
The cutler possesses some of the most valuable skills in any knife factory. Initially, a knife that’s just been assembled may not function properly. The Cutler adjusts the knife using a small hammer and a variety of triangular shaped shims, and fine tunes the blades to open and close with a familiar little “snap!” known as the Case “Walk and Talk.”
Case has been blessed to have many skilled Cutlers throughout the years and John has long been considered to be one of the best. As the last of the veteran Master Cutlers, John has passed down his knowledge to several aspiring associates to spawn a new generation of Cutlers for Case. They may not have reached “Master” status just yet, but John’s influence will allow them to carry on the quality tradition that has always been associated with Case.
